It was a Saturday morning. My son Altamish, had requested for a Playstation 4, and my wife had asked for some kitchen utensils. So, all of us went downtown, but I have to stop at a bank as I needed some cash. It was with that money that I planned to do the shopping.
The bank was crowded. It was not unusual for banks are normally crowded on Saturdays. There were two queues, and and I joined the shorter queue. Everyone seemed to look quite impatient. It was a very slow moving queue and almost not moving at all. I felt very unpleased either.
The customer at the head of my queue left the counter, then I moved a step closer. Suddenly, three armed men rushed in through the door. Their faces were hidden by the mask they wore. One of them shouted at everyone to lie prostrait on the floor. "Quick get down on the floor." We moved as ordered.
Another robber stood by the door. Surprisingly, the security guard was nowhere to be seen. The third person quickly jumped over the counter. Pointing a gun at the clerks, he forced them to to fill in a bag with cash. The clerks obeyed the instructions as if they were engaged in a perfectly legitimate act!
The masked man who had ordered us to lie prostrate on the floor watch over us. I didn't think that he is an adult. He probably in his late teens, by judging his voice and body.
After a while, the gunman at the door shouted, "Spark, why the hell are you taking so long?
With my body lying prostrate on the floor I still could see what was happening. Of course, I was scared and I couldn't believe it was really happening. Yes, it was a bank robbery right in front of me.
As I was counting then seconds, the one behind the counter, jumped over , and together with his friend stood at the door, dashed out and got into a waiting car. The one who stood watching the customers , hesitated for a while and then moved to the door.
At the very moment urged me to act and I did act, I'll never know why and how it happened the way it did. I punced the man and pinned him to the floor. Groaning, kicking he tried to free himself but failed. The other customers manage to disarm him, and soon everyone seemed to be upon him!
The car with the two men sped off. The bank was noisy again with everyone relating his version of the event.
Don't ask me what made me pounce on the gunman. Perhaps, I can be brave too when the situation demands it.
